Welcome to the BSU Wiki!

This BSU WIKI is a resource and collaboration space to evaluate options and develop guidelines and procedures for Barre staff interested in using Web 2.0 apps with students. Any staff member interested in these tools should be invited to participate.
Some considerations and questions about using WEB 2 apps with students:
Ø Safety – protect student identities
Ø Equity – provide adequate classroom computer time for required work – some students do not even have home computers
Ø Parental Permission and possibly participation – ideally develop one permission form for all grade levels
Ø BSU and School policies – follow existing policies such as those for student pictures
Ø Legal – there are laws
Ø Extension of classroom – parents and students need to be reminded that class online spaces are an extension of the classroom and all classroom rules and behavior expectations apply
Ø Supervision – Student use of the Internet for school purposes always needs to be closely supervised. If students are allowed, encouraged or required to participate in school blogs, wikis and other web applications, then the teacher who is setting this up has to closely monitor the published content.
Ø Public or Private – Some online spaces can be deemed “private” and only invited persons are allowed to see them and/or contribute to them. Do different rules apply when there is only private access?
Ø Web sites – Are there specific sites that we want to recommend or require that teachers use with students? We need to explore and experiment.
Ø Student email addresses? Many Web 2.0 tools require email addresses of all collaborators. Do we want to go here?
Ø The moderator should be able to edit all the blog pages all the time.
